Petting Zoo: Spacing out on Spaced

"Spaced" is a sitcom, but not in the superficial "Friends" sort of way.
The cast of characters look like you and me.
Even in the show's absurdity, they are relatable and have their quirks: Brian, who lives in Tim and Daisy's apartment building, can only create art when he is unhappy. As soon as he begins a relationship with Daisy's friend Twist, his creativity goes in the garbage.
Tim's friend Mike has a childlike fascination with being in the British Army, but cannot join because when he was little, Tim told him to jump out of a tree. The accident ended up detaching Mike's retinas.
Daisy is a struggling freelance writer whose laziness prevents her from writing or finding a job.
Tim is a comic book store employee who, in one episode, gets fired for yelling at a child for liking Jar Jar Binks.
Tim Bisley: Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like f--king Shaft.
While I do wish there were more shows of the same caliber as "Spaced," I enjoy the fact that it was one of a kind.
It was reminiscent of "Python," with the rock-and-roll surrealism of "The Young Ones," and yet offered something unique to most sitcoms: a little bit of heart.

If you liked Black Adder and Spaced, check out Black Books (Bill Bailey is awesome) and Peep Show. You will die laughing from both.

I am a pretty big Black Books fan, actually. Dylan Moran is my hero on that show.
