Welcome Week: Danity Kane sexing up campus Thursday with free concert

Danity Kane, Puff Daddy's Making the Band 3 star singers will be performing during YSU's action packed Welcome Week Thursday the 28th.

The all girl group, comprised of Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, Aubrey O'Day, Dawn Richard and Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgette are scheduled to play a free concert 7 p.m. behind the east side stands of Stambaugh Stadium.

Senior Kelsey Rupert, a Student Programming Intern for the Department of Campus Recreation and student programming, said Stambaugh Stadium was chosen as the location because of security and the amount of people it will hold.

Organizer of the event and president of Penguin Productions Emily Wollet feels confident that the concert will be a good experience for YSU students and that it's a great way to start off the new semester. Wollet also said she thinks there will be a good turnout for the show because it's free to YSU students and believes Danity Kane is musically a good mix that might attract a lot of people.

Rupert does not know how many students will be in attendance at the concert. "We've never done a concert this size on campus so I'm not really sure. The biggest crowd we've had was the foam party and that was around 1,500 students. I'd like to see more at the concert." Rupert said.

Known for such hits as "Show Stopper" and "Ride for You", Danity Kane released their second album, "Welcome to the Dollhouse", earlier this year, which includes a third hit single, "Damaged".

Student Government President Michael McGiffin said he hopes students will respond well and generally enjoy Danity Kane and that he doesn't see why there shouldn't be a large crowd for free entertainment.

Eager fans might express interest at the idea of backstage passes to the event. Opportunities to obtain VIP passes will be at the following events: Monday 7 p.m. at YSU's annual Foam Party and Wednesday 9 p.m. outside the movie "The Strangers" on the football field of Stambaugh Stadium.

The event is sponsored by Penguin Productions, The Student Government Association, Welcome Week Committee, Campus Recreation and Student Programming and Housing and Residence Life.

Do, do you a have a free concert ticket handy?
