Theater crafts display features work of YSU designer

Youngstown State University Theater productions is featuring the work of W. Rick Schilling, associate staff designer, in an exhibition called "From the Neck Up." The exhibition features masks, crowns and wigs, comprising thirty costume pieces from productions ranging over the past 25 years. It's on display in the Bliss Hall lobby through Aug. 12.

YSU hosts Ohio Business Week for its ninth year

Over 125 high school students from across Ohio, with 25 students from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, will participate in Ohio Business Week from June 22 to June 28. The event marks its ninth year on the YSU campus. The Ohio Business Week Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization that gives high school students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in business and entrepreneurship.

McDonough Museum seeking participation from YSU art graduates

Youngstown State University's McDonough Museum of Art is planning for the 2009 Alumni Exhibition and needs YSU art graduates to participate. The exhibit is open to all art department alumni. The juried art exhibit will run February 20 to March 20, 2009 and includes $3,000 in cash prizes. The juror is Mary Antonakos, director of I space Gallery at the College of Fine Arts, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Eligible work includes: painting, drawing, mixed media, prints, photography, digital photography, sculpture, installations, ceramics, textiles, glass, metalwork, graphics and multimedia. Respiratory care program receives national award

The YSU respiratory care program received the Excellence in Respiratory Therapy Education Award from the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. This award is given to a respiratory care program that has distinguished itself by demonstrating excellence in respiratory care education. The award will be given to the program during the American Association for Respiratory Care's summer forum in July in Phoenix.

Six students receive $1,000 scholarships

Amanda Prommersberger, Tara Thomas, Sara Fouad, Jessica Cartwright, Noah Fillian and Laureen Losasso each received a $1,000 scholarship from the YSU Women's Club. The Women's Club funds three of the scholarships, and the additional three are funded through a donation from the late Raymond Shuster in honor of his wife, Martha Kryston Shuster, a past president of the club.

YSU director named to new leadership position

Arlene Floyd, director in the associate degree and tech prep program, was named to the leadership team for the Great Lakes Girls Collaborative Project, a regional affiliate of the National Girls Collaborative Project and funded by the National Science Foundation to advance gender equality in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.
