Comic opera playing this weekend

University Theater's production of "Amelia Goes to the Ball" opens tonight and plays through Sunday.The comic opera by Gian Carlo Menotti will be staged in Bliss Hall tonight, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. For tickets call the box office at (330) 941-3105.

Red and White game this week

YSU football will hold it's annual Red and White game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium.

Delphi engineer to show career opportunities to young women

Laurie Moore is the keynote speaker at the 11th annual Women in Science and Engineering Career Workshop Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Kilcawley Center. Moore is a staff environmental engineer at Delphi Automotive Systems in Warren. The workshop focuses on showing young women in grades 6 through 12 opportunities in science and technology fields.

Project Vote Smart Bus to Make a Stop at YSU

The Project Vote Smart National Bus Tour will be at YSU on Thursday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be parked between DeBartolo Hall and the Lincoln Avenue parking deck. The organization will have information on over 40,000 candidates running for various positions on hand along with a database featuring candidates' speeches and public statements.

Events count down to Earth Day

Howard Lyman, aka The Mad Cowboy, will be lecturing about factory farming, vegetarianism, the environment and health Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Kilcawley Center's Gallery Lyman is a self-proclaimed cattle rancher who doesn't eat meat. The BBC Planet Earth series will be shown in the Ward Beecher Planetarium Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Earth Day Festival April 23 runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kilcawley Center and will feature the participation of about 20 environmental organizations.

Guest speaker set to discuss online privacy

Marius Truta, assistant professor of computer science at Northern Kentucky University, will speak about data mining and privacy on Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 330 of Meshel Hall. Her appearance is part of the lecture series named for the late Dr. Karen Duda who had served as chair of the YSU computer science department.
